Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed speculations that he is preparing to dump the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Thursday during the NNPP’s 9th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Kwankwaso said rumours about his possible defection were unfounded.
“Many people thought today we will announce whether I will stay in NNPP or go to another party or join some individuals. That was not the intention of the meeting. We have our party, and we are comfortable and happy,” the former minister told the gathering.
Kwankwaso, however, noted that while the NNPP remains his political base, he is open to constructive dialogue with other stakeholders in Nigeria’s political space.

“We believe we have something to offer at the highest leadership level of this country. We are ready to talk to anybody, but any negotiation will be collective,” he added.
During the NEC session, Kwankwaso was officially reaffirmed as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election.
In his remarks, NNPP National Chairman Dr. Ajuji Ahmed described the former governor as a “visionary leader” whose popularity and political experience position him as the best candidate to lead the country.
Ahmed said the NEC was united in its decision, stressing that the party is determined to consolidate its presence nationwide and challenge for power in 2027.
