The ancient city of Kano was thrown into shock and mourning on Saturday after a housewife and three of her children were brutally killed, while her infant was reportedly thrown into an open well within their home.

The horrifying incident occurred in the Dorayi Chiranci area of the Kano metropolis, leaving residents traumatized and gripped by fear.

Eyewitnesses and community members said unidentified assailants allegedly stormed the family’s residence, slaughtered the woman and three of her children, and hurled her baby into a well located inside the compound. The identities of the attackers remain unknown.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact circumstances surrounding the gruesome attack — including the time it occurred and the motive behind it — remain unclear. Security operatives are said to have launched investigations to unravel the mystery behind the bloodshed.

Residents of Dorayi Chiranci described the incident as “horrifying, shocking, and unprecedented,” noting that such a violent crime is rare in the area. The community has been plunged into grief, with many households overwhelmed by fear and anxiety.

“There is panic everywhere. People are scared and confused. This is something we never imagined could happen here,” a resident said.

Following the incident, calls for heightened security have intensified, with residents urging law enforcement agencies to swiftly apprehend those responsible and prevent further violence. Many locals were seen taking precautionary measures amid palpable tension in the neighbourhood.

The Kano State Police Command are yet to release official statement as at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the community waits anxiously for answers — and justice — as Kano mourns yet another tragic loss of innocent lives.
