The Kano State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against crime with the interception of suspected explosive materials and illicit drugs in two separate operations across the metropolis.

In the first operation, carried out on January 13, police officers attached to the Rijiyar Lemo Police Division executed a search warrant at a residence in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge Local Government Area. During the raid, officers recovered six rolls of detonating cords, 20 parcels of suspected Cannabis Sativa, and 220 sachets of Exol tablets.

In a related development, operatives of the Anti-Daba Unit intercepted a tricycle rider at Sani Mainagge Quarters in Gwale Local Government Area. A search of the tricycle led to the recovery of 3,700 pieces of electric detonators.

The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Garba, also known as “Manyan Baki,” aged 49 and a native of Zamfara State, reportedly confessed during interrogation that he was involved in facilitating the movement of the explosive materials from Nasarawa State to Kano.

Confirming the incidents, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said detectives were still investigating the cases and interrogating the suspects to uncover the full network behind the illegal activities.

He added that further arrests were expected as investigations progressed.

Commending the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised their commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.

Bakori urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious movements or items to the nearest police station. He also warned members of the public not to touch strange or suspicious objects, advising them instead to keep a safe distance and alert the authorities immediately.

The police command reaffirmed its resolve to sustain aggressive patrols and intelligence-led operations to prevent criminal activities and ensure continued peace and security in Kano State.
