The Kano State Government has launched a large-scale operation to demolish illegal structures erected on government-owned land across the state.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Kano State Task Force on Development Control, aims to reclaim and protect public spaces for developmental purposes.
Speaking on Wednesday at Kwankwasiya City, the Secretary of the Task Force, Hameed Sidi, disclosed that over 10 illegal structures had been identified in the area. He noted that the operation would target hotspots where unauthorized constructions are most prevalent.
Sidi revealed that property owners were given adequate notice to vacate the premises before the demolition exercise commenced.

“We are committed to restoring order and ensuring that public land is used for its intended purpose,” he stated, emphasizing that the operation would persist until all encroachments were removed.
The task force has already demolished a duplex in Guringawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area, and marked additional plots and structures to halt ongoing construction activities.
Residents were urged to comply with land use laws and update their old land title documents through the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning.
According to Sidi, the recertification process will enhance the accuracy of land records, protect investments, and facilitate dispute resolution.
“We encourage landowners to promptly visit the Ministry for recertification. This will help secure their investments and ensure compliance with state regulations,” Sidi added.
