President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has finally approved the posting of 31 career and 34 non-career ambassadors to Nigeria’s foreign missions and the United Nations, a move widely seen as long overdue.
The Senate had earlier confirmed the ambassadors-designate in December 2025, but their postings had been pending for months, raising concerns about Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad.
In a statement issued by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the approved list includes several prominent figures among the non-career ambassadors.

They include former presidential aide Reno Omokri, who has been posted to Mexico; former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode, assigned to Germany; former presidential adviser Ita Enang, posted to South Africa; and former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, who will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Qatar.
The approval is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements and restore full representation in key foreign missions after months of vacancies in several embassies.
