A former Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has died at the age of 71.

Uduaghan died after a brief illness on the morning of Monday, October 19, 2026, according to a statement issued by his family and signed by Toju Andre Uduaghan.

The statement, titled “Announcement of the Passing of His Excellency, Dr Chief Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan,” described his death as a profound loss to the family, Delta State and Nigeria.

The family said Uduaghan was a source of strength and a respected elder whose life and public service touched many people across the state and the country.

Uduaghan served as Delta State Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007 before becoming governor in 2007.
