The Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has claimed that Peter Obi’s political influence is causing concern for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Grassroots Parrot reports that Kwankwaso made the assertion on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the NDC’s preparations for the forthcoming elections and its chances of securing victory.
According to him, Obi’s popularity in southern Nigeria, combined with the NDC’s mobilisation efforts in the North, could strengthen the party’s position in the presidential contest.
“Peter Obi is popular in the South, and we are mobilising our people in the North,” Kwankwaso said, adding that Tinubu was concerned about the party’s presidential candidate.
He also suggested that the President’s reliance on state governors reflected the challenges facing his re-election bid.

Kwankwaso further alleged that some political actors had previously considered ways of manipulating the electoral process, expressing confidence that his party could overcome such challenges at the polls.
The former Kano State governor attributed the NDC’s growing support to members of the Kwankwasiyya movement and Nigerians seeking an alternative political direction.
He maintained that the party was building a formidable coalition capable of challenging the ruling party in 2027.
“All of them believe that we will win the election,” Kwankwaso said, expressing optimism about the NDC’s chances.
His remarks come as political parties and their leading figures position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with alliances, voter mobilisation and the strength of presidential contenders expected to shape the contest.
