The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concerns over recent reports suggesting that the party will not be participating in the upcoming local government elections in Kano, scheduled for October 26, 2024.

The party is urging the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) to clarify its position and distance itself from such claims.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Publicity Secretary of Kano APC, Ahmad Aruwa, the party dismissed the reports as misleading and reiterated its commitment to taking part in the elections.

“Our party has taken necessary steps to participate in the elections, and any claims suggesting otherwise are misleading and untrue,” the statement read.

The APC also revealed that it has filed a fresh legal suit against KANSIEC to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, demonstrating the party’s seriousness in contesting the elections.

The APC called on the electoral commission, chaired by Prof. Sani Lawan Malumfashi, to uphold its impartiality and ensure a fair playing field for all political parties involved in the elections.

The statement emphasized the party’s commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, urging the commission to stay neutral.

“We request the commission to maintain its impartiality and ensure a level playing field for all participating parties,” the statement continued. “The APC is committed to democratic principles and will continue to uphold the rule of law.”

The APC further called on its supporters and the public to disregard any misinformation about its involvement in the election and focus on the upcoming polls. Confident in its track record, the party expressed optimism about securing victory, citing its success in previous elections.

The party’s move to clarify its position comes amid political tensions in Kano, where the local government elections are expected to be highly competitive, with multiple parties vying for control across the state’s 44 local government areas.
