Eight residents abducted by bandits in Kaduna State have reportedly died after spending six months in captivity, with a mother, her two daughters, a newborn baby and four other victims among the deceased.
The victims were among 11 residents kidnapped when armed bandits invaded Awon community in Kachia Local Government Area of Southern Kaduna on April 20, 2026.
Reports indicate that the abductors initially demanded a ransom of ₦300 million and 23 motorcycles. However, they reportedly rejected the community’s offer and threatened to withhold food from the captives until their demands were met.
The prolonged captivity allegedly took a devastating toll on the victims, with reports indicating that hunger and illnesses contributed to several deaths.
The mother was reportedly the first to die, while her 14-year-old daughter, who was abducted alongside her, later succumbed after becoming critically ill.
