More than 1,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State.
The mass defection took place in the Tofa and Ghari Local Government Areas, where former APC members officially joined the NNPP in a series of ceremonies.
Dr. Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, the state chairman of the NNPP, welcomed the defectors at the events, which also marked the flag-off of the NNPP’s chairmanship campaign ahead of the upcoming local government elections. The influx of new members is seen as a boost to the party’s political fortunes in the state.

Among those in attendance were Yakubu Ibrahim Adis, the NNPP’s candidate for the Tofa Local Government Area, and Hashimu Mai Sabulu, the party’s candidate for Ghari. Both candidates expressed confidence in the NNPP’s growing influence in the state, noting that the defections further strengthened the party’s position ahead of the elections.
The NNPP, which has been gaining ground in Kano, views the defections as a major step in solidifying its presence and challenging the dominance of the APC in the state.
