Vice President Kashim Shettima has aborted his planned trip to the United States Of America to attend the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit in Dallas, Texas due to a technical fault with his aircraft.
Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, will now represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit, following a last-minute change in plans.

The summit, organized by the Corporate Council on Africa, is set to convene political and business leaders from Africa, the United States, and beyond from May 6 to May 9, 2024, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
This gathering will feature high-level discussions, networking opportunities, and plenary sessions aimed at fostering economic cooperation and exploring investment prospects between the US and African nations.

A statement from Shettima’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, clarified that the decision to forgo the trip was made in adherence to the advice of the Presidential Air Fleet managers. Despite the change, Shettima will continue to fulfill his national duties.
The summit anticipates the presence of several African heads of state, including President Joseph Boakai of Liberia, President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi, President Joao Lourenço of Angola.

Others are President Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi of Botswana, President José Maria Neves of Cabo Verde, and Deputy Prime Minister Nthomeng Majara of Lesotho.
These leaders, alongside delegates from the United States, will engage in discussions aimed at enhancing economic ties and identifying investment opportunities between the two regions.
