The Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos (UNILAG), has made history by announcing that 18 female graduates achieved first-class honors for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The event, which took place on Tuesday, saw the university confer a total of 16,590 degrees and diplomas, comprising 9,865 first degrees and diplomas and 6,659 postgraduate degrees.
Additionally, 66 students graduated from the UNILAG Business School (ULBS).
UNILAG’s management lauded the 18 all-female students for their remarkable achievements, describing them as a testament to the power of perseverance, resilience, and academic dedication.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that their success sets a benchmark for excellence in education and inspires upcoming students.
Reflecting on their academic journeys, some of the graduates shared their personal stories. Peace Onuoha, who initially aspired to study law, revealed how she motivated herself to excel in mass communication despite juggling multiple jobs and internships. She attributed her success to hard work and self-belief.
Similarly, Temiloluwa Igbinlade recounted her struggles transitioning from secondary school to university. She faced significant challenges but overcame them through determination and her strong faith.
“It was a tough journey, but I always reminded myself that success is achievable with persistence and a clear focus on goals,” she said.
