Sen. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, a Senator representing Sokoto South at the Senate has flagged off the distribution of food items worth millions of naira to over 30, 000 households within his constituency in the state.

While unfolding the distribution plans at his residence in Sokoto on Friday, Senator Tambuwal explained that the kind gesture aimed at cushioning the effect of the current economic hardship, would come in phases.

According to the Chairman Senate Committee on Housing and Urban Development, items to be distributed within the holy month of Ramadan include bags of rice and seed capital for small-scale businesses.

“In the first phase, we shall be reaching 30,000 households with bags of rice, seed capital for small-scale businesses and we would do more in the second, third, and fourth phases throughout the holy month of Ramadan, and beyond.” He said.

Beyond the food items and seed capital, Tambuwal, the former Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum, also said he has extended his intervention to education by providing scholarship for students in the state especially those from his constituency.

“With gratitude to Almighty Allah SWT, we have commenced the distribution of food items, seed capital, and scholarships in Sokoto with emphasis to Sokoto North, my constituency.

“Without a doubt, the times are challenging, but we are committed to bringing succor to our people. We are on course. We believe in action as we will be doing all that we can for our people at such a critical period in our national lives.

Tanbuwal Denies Boycotting Inauguration of Security Group Event

Meanwhile, contrary to speculations making the round on the media, Senator Tambuwal denied an accusation of boycotting a particular event on the inauguration of a voluntary security group in Sokoto State. He said he was neither aware nor invited to the occasion.

“I am aware of the recent circulated news that Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was invited but boycotted the inauguration of a voluntary security group in Sokoto, I will use this opportunity to make it clear that no one has invited me, that’s why I didn’t come, but I am ready for anything that will bring about peace and development in Sokoto if I’m asked to be present.

“Even if I’m not asked, I will continue to be committed by using my current position. We know that representatives, when they are elected, their job is to uphold the law, monitoring government, and bring constituency projects, we will continue to be committed in this regard.” He clarified.

Even though the 2023 governorship election in Sokoto State may have come and gone, the former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Governors Forum still reflected on the circumstance that prompted the loss of his party to the All Progressive Congress APC in the state.

His words: “It is clear that everyone knows that PDP won the election in Sokoto State, especially the governorship election, but some people did what they did, and we accepted our destiny. We sympathize with the people of Sokoto State for the situation they have found themselves in, but we are ready to continue giving our contribution to sustain peace and stability in the state.”

The Senator also reminded his constituents of his primary responsibilities as a federal lawmaker to make laws and perform oversight functions. “We know that representatives, when they are elected, their job is to uphold the law, monitoring government, and bring constituency projects, we will continue to be committed in this regard.

Some of the top dignitaries who graced the occasion included the PDP governorship aspirant in the 2023 election, Mallam Saidu Umar (Mallam Ubandoma Sokoto), state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Bello Goronyo and Hon. Bashir Gorau a serving member representing Gada-Goronyo federal constituency at the House of Representatives, former commissioners and directors.
