The Proprietor of Baptist Academy Kano, Rev. Dr. Armstrong Olatunde Ajayi, has urged parents to respect their children’s career choices and avoid compelling them to pursue courses they have no interest in.

He gave the counsel during the school’s graduation ceremony, which also marked the 60th anniversary of the academy.

Addressing a crowd of dignitaries, parents, alumni, and well-wishers gathered at the school premises to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee, Rev. Dr. Ajayi emphasized the importance of aligning children’s academic paths with their natural talents and passions.

“Children can only truly fulfill their life’s purpose when they are allowed to follow their dreams,” Rev. Ajayi stated. “As parents, our role is to guide, not to impose. We must help our children make informed decisions that reflect their gifts and interests.”

Founded in 1965, Baptist Academy Kano has grown into one of the most respected institutions in the state, renowned for nurturing excellence, character, and leadership.

Rev. Ajayi highlighted the school’s well-qualified teaching staff, the presence of a professional school counselor, and a learning environment that supports students’ holistic development.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. Ponle Okunola, a senior lecturer at Yusuf Maitama University of Education, Kano, echoed Rev. Ajayi’s sentiments.

He warned that pressuring children into unwanted academic paths could negatively affect their performance and mental well-being.

“When a child is forced to study a course they dislike, it often leads to demotivation and poor academic results,” Dr. Okunola said. “Parents must listen to their children and support them to thrive in areas where they are naturally inclined.”

Several parents and students in attendance praised Baptist Academy Kano for its commitment to academic excellence, moral instruction, and spiritual development. Many described the institution as one of the best places to provide children with a well-rounded education.

The celebration ended with the presentation of awards, cultural performances, and heartfelt tributes from alumni and staff, reflecting on the school’s impactful legacy over six decades.
