Former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), just days after stepping down as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The appointment was formally announced during the official inauguration of the newly constituted FAAN board held in Abuja on Tuesday.

Ganduje’s appointment has stirred public interest, coming less than two weeks after he resigned from his party leadership position, citing health-related concerns.

Speaking after his inauguration, Ganduje pledged to work collaboratively with FAAN’s executive management and the ministry to improve airport infrastructure and service standards across the country.

“We will study the FAAN Act thoroughly to understand our responsibilities and limits,” Ganduje said. “Our goal is to ensure that service delivery at Nigerian airports meets international standards and reflects our position as a leading country in Africa.”

In his remarks, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, charged the new board members with the responsibility of advancing Nigeria’s aviation sector, stressing the importance of effective governance, transparency, and a strong commitment to service delivery.

The minister urged the board to work closely with FAAN’s executive management, emphasizing adherence to the provisions of the FAAN Act, particularly in areas of safety, security, sustainable development, improved passenger experience, and collaboration with stakeholders.

The newly inaugurated board includes FAAN Managing Director, Ms. Olubunmi Kuku; Ms. Dorothy Duruaka; Ahmed Ibrahim Suleiman; Engr. Nasiru Muazu; Omozojie Okoboh; Engr. TP Vembe; and Bridget Gold, who will serve as the board secretary.
