Nnamdi Kanu’s Plea for Bail Restoration Fail At Federal High Court

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has firmly dismissed the plea submitted by Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Biafra nation agitators, for the reinstatement of his revoked bail and his transfer from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to either house arrest or prison custody.

Justice Nyako’s ruling comes as a major setback for Kanu, who sought a change in his custody conditions amidst ongoing legal battles.

In her decisive judgment, Justice Nyako cited Kanu’s previous breach of bail conditions, stating unequivocally that he had absconded from the country despite being granted bail earlier.

The judge highlighted that the sureties who had stood for Kanu had applied to be discharged due to their inability to locate him, further undermining his plea for altered custody arrangements.

Emphasizing the legal avenues available to Kanu, Justice Nyako directed him to pursue his case in the Court of Appeal, reiterating that his right to appeal remained intact despite the dismissal of his request at the Federal High Court.

Disputing assertions made by Kanu’s legal team regarding a supposed Supreme Court judgment supporting his stance on bail revocation, Justice Nyako clarified that no such ruling existed in the provided documentation.

In a dramatic turn of events, Kanu vehemently rejected the jurisdiction of Nigerian courts over his case, branding any attempt to subject him to trial as a violation of both Nigeria’s Constitution and international laws.

He specifically criticized the conduct of the Federal Government’s prosecutor, Asiwaju Solomon Awomolo SAN, labeling him a “terrorist” for allegedly flouting international treaties.

Kanu’s fiery remarks underscored his steadfast refusal to stand trial in Nigeria, citing what he deemed a breach of legal norms and international agreements.
