Former President Goodluck Jonathan has intervened in the escalating political tension in Rivers State, urging Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, to prioritize the state’s development over political differences.

Speaking at the commencement of the construction of the N222.1 billion Trans-Kalabari Road, Jonathan emphasized the necessity for cooperation between Fubara and the former governor, now Minister, in fostering growth and progress in Rivers State.

He highlighted the adverse effects of political discord on the state’s development trajectory, asserting that it was imperative to quell tensions for the greater good.

Jonathan underscored the significance of Rivers State in the context of the Niger Delta region and Nigeria as a whole, emphasizing that destabilization in the state would reverberate beyond its borders.

He urged both leaders to set aside differences and work collaboratively towards advancing the welfare and prosperity of the state’s populace.

The former president’s intervention comes amid mounting political strife in Rivers State, with concerns raised about its potential ramifications on the region’s stability and the nation at large.

Jonathan’s call for unity and cooperation echoes sentiments expressed by various stakeholders, who have stressed the importance of dialogue and reconciliation in resolving the state’s political impasse.
