Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano on Tuesday presented a supplementary budget of N99bn to the State House of Assembly.

Grassroots Parrot gathered that the supplementary budget will, among others, cover the new minimum wage payment agreed between the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Federal Government.

The governor’s request letter was read by the House Speaker, Ismail Falgore, during Tuesday’s plenary.

According to the speaker, the governor is seeking the assembly’s approval under sections 122(A and B) of the 1999 constitution to accelerate and execute priority projects aimed at improving the well-being of the citizens.

“From the supplementary budget, N33 billion has been earmarked for personnel costs, N34 billion for overhead costs, and N30 billion for capital expenditure.” Falgore said.

Meanwhile, the state commissioner for planning and budget, Musa Shanono, addressed newsmen shortly after the presentation of the letter to the house.

Shanono said the initial budget of the state for 2024 is N437, 338, 312, 787, adding that the current supplementary budget will increase the Kano State annual budget to over five hundred billion naira.

“If you merge the original budget with the supplementary budget, passed into law, it will increase the 2024 budget to the tune of N536, 559, 816, and 357.84.”

He noted that the supplementary budget will also cover the new minimum wage payment, among others.
