COURT

The Kano State Judicial Staff Commission (JSC) has taken decisive disciplinary actions against three of its personnel — including a High Court judge — in a move aimed at strengthening accountability and restoring public trust within the judiciary.

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Justice, Baba Jibo Ibrahim, the sanctions were approved during the Commission’s 88th meeting, presided over by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki.

The Commission formally warned High Court Judge Umar Bala Musa of Dambatta over what it described as an unjustifiable delay in issuing court documents.

Despite a three-month investigation into the matter, the judge was found to have failed to meet the constitutionally mandated seven-day limit for processing the documents — a lapse the Commission said undermines timely justice delivery.

In a more severe action, the JSC suspended two staff members without salaries pending the conclusion of investigations and ongoing litigation.

Saifuddeen Mukhtar Abdullahi, a records officer, was suspended over allegations of diverting staff cooperative funds through the use of forged documents.

Kamal Ado, a clerk at Kurna Court, was suspended due to an active federal court case involving charges of narcotics possession, assault on public officials, and witness tampering.

The Commission said the suspensions were necessary to prevent interference with investigations and to maintain ethical conduct within the judiciary.

In a separate development, the JSC lifted a four-year promotion ban placed on Ibrahim Adamu.
According to the Commission, Adamu had completed his suspension term and demonstrated remorse, making him eligible for career progression once again.

The Commission stressed that the measures form part of a broader effort to enforce discipline, uphold integrity, and preserve confidence in the judicial sector.

“The judiciary must remain a symbol of fairness and accountability,” the statement added, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to a cleaner, more transparent justice system in Kano State.
