Kano Governor Demands Removal Of Police Commissioner

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently remove the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, accusing him of partisanship and unprofessional conduct.

Governor Yusuf made the demand on Wednesday during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day anniversary celebration held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, where he condemned the police command’s withdrawal from the official parade.

Describing the action as “an affront to the people of Kano and the spirit of national unity,” the governor warned that such conduct could undermine public peace during a significant national event.

“As you can see, on this historic Independence anniversary of Nigeria, the Commissioner of Police decided to pull out of the parade along with his personnel. This decision embarrassed the government and people of Kano. As the Chief Security Officer of this state, I condemn this unethical and partisan attitude,” Yusuf said.

He reassured residents that Kano remains peaceful and that the people had anticipated celebrating the nation’s independence together.

“The people of Kano are peace-loving. They have been waiting for this day to celebrate the independence of our country, but unfortunately, a key security institution decided to withdraw at the last minute,” the governor lamented.

While thanking other security agencies for participating in the ceremony, Yusuf alleged that the commissioner’s actions were politically motivated and contrary to the Nigerian Constitution.

“You can see I even used my own pilot car to go around. This is unethical. This is disloyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he added.

The governor urged security agencies across the country to steer clear of partisan politics, insisting that political interference erodes their constitutional role.

“I call on President Tinubu to ensure the Commissioner of Police is removed immediately from Kano, and I am also going to write a formal petition through the office of the National Security Adviser. Kano people are highly respected people that want the progress of Nigeria in unity; we do not want people who will create problems for us,” Yusuf said.

As of press time, the Kano State Police Command had not issued an official response to the governor’s allegations or his demand for the commissioner’s removal.
