The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday, attended the burial of his uncle in Rumuepirikom, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, in what appeared to be a symbolic display of unity among previously feuding political figures in the state.
Wike was joined at the ceremony by the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, alongside other dignitaries.
Their joint appearance comes just days after a high-level peace meeting in Abuja, convened by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at resolving the prolonged political crisis in Rivers.
At the Presidential Villa, Tinubu met with Wike, Fubara, Amaewhule, and other key state actors to address the deepening rift that had disrupted governance and heightened tensions.

The President had earlier declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, citing escalating insecurity and a total breakdown in communication between major political stakeholders — an action that led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire House of Assembly.
Following the closed-door meeting, Wike disclosed that all parties had agreed to reconcile and collaborate for the greater good of the state.
“We have all agreed to work together with the governor, and the governor also agreed to work together with all of us. We are members of the same political family,” he said while briefing journalists.
The burial event, which brought the warring camps together for the first time in months, is being interpreted by observers as a hopeful step toward lasting peace in the state.
