Tonto Dikeh, Yul Edochie Calls For Caution Amid Youth Protest Plans: Says Tinubu Doing His Best

Actress Tonto Dikeh has weighed in on the upcoming youth protest scheduled for August 1-10, 2024, cautioning against its necessity and advocating for a more strategic approach to address Nigeria’s pressing issues.

Acknowledging the economic hardships and rising cost of living that have gripped the nation, Tonto Dikeh empathized with the frustrations of Nigerian youths but expressed concern over the potential consequences of widespread protests.

Drawing from the tumultuous aftermath of the #EndSARS protests, she highlighted the risks of violence and destabilization that such movements can entail.

Instead of large-scale protests, Dikeh proposed forming a representative group to engage directly with President Bola Tinubu. This group, she suggested, could articulate the concerns of the youth, propose solutions, and foster constructive dialogue aimed at national unity and progress.

Emphasizing the power of peaceful dialogue and community development, she urged Nigerian youths to consider alternative means to voice their concerns effectively.

In her heartfelt message to fellow Nigerian youths, Dikeh stated, “Sometimes we can be right, but how we express ourselves matters. This is a heartfelt plea to all Nigerian youths—LET’S MAKE SMART CHOICES.”

Similarly, controversial Nollywood actor Yul Edochie echoed Dikeh’s sentiments, urging patience and continued dialogue with President Tinubu amidst the calls for protest. Edochie acknowledged the hardships faced by Nigerians but cautioned against the potentially destructive outcomes of mass demonstrations, citing previous instances of violence and loss of life.

“I acknowledge the hardships. Protest is not the answer. People take advantage of protests to break into other people’s shops, steal, destroy properties, hurt and kill innocent Nigerians who are already going through a lot. In the end, the aim of the protest will be defeated. Remember what happened during End SARS.
“Protest is not the answer. Let’s be patient. Let’s keep speaking out and doing all we can to help out. President Tinubu listens and he’s doing all he can to put make things right. Fellow Nigerians, let’s be patient,” the actor said.

Both Dikeh and Edochie underscored the importance of pursuing avenues that prioritize peace, dialogue, and strategic engagement with the government to achieve lasting and positive change in Nigeria.
