The convicts, Umar Auwalu, popularly known as Breaker, and Yakubu Dayyabu, were found guilty of killing the seven family members in an attack that occurred on January 17, 2026.
Delivering judgment on Friday, November 6, 2026, Justice Nasiru Saminu sentenced each of the defendants to seven death sentences, representing one sentence for each victim, for culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Penal Code.
The court also sentenced them to life imprisonment with hard labour for conspiracy to commit culpable homicide and armed robbery.
However, the third defendant, Isyaku Yakubu, popularly known as Chebe or Chobe, was discharged and acquitted.

The victims were identified as Fatima and her children, Maimuna, 17; Aisha, 16; Bashir, 13; Abubakar, 10; Faruk, seven; and Abdussalam, aged one and a half.
During the trial, the court heard that the attackers gained entry into the family’s residence after Fatima opened the door for Auwalu, whom she recognised as her nephew.
The attackers allegedly locked the house before launching a deadly assault on the family with dangerous objects, including a cutlass, a club and a sewing machine.
Neighbours reportedly forced their way into the residence after hearing desperate cries for help but discovered that the attackers had fled.
Auwalu, said to be the leader of the gang, reportedly admitted partial responsibility for the killings while appealing to the court for leniency.
He also alleged during the proceedings that a herbalist identified as Thomas supplied him with incense and instructed him to continue carrying out similar attacks.
The judgment brings a major development in the prosecution of one of Kano’s most disturbing family murder cases.
