A devastating fire incident in Kano has claimed the lives of three family members of Yusuf Kofar-Mata, the Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education in Kano State.
The commissioner shared the heartbreaking news on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, announcing the loss of his daughter, Maimuna; his elder sister, Khadija; and his brother’s wife, Juwairiyya.

The fire, which engulfed the commissioner’s residence in the Kofar-Mata metropolis during the early hours of Wednesday, occurred while the family was asleep, causing significant damage and leaving a trail of sorrow.
In his emotional Facebook post, Commissioner Kofar-Mata expressed deep grief over the sudden loss of his loved ones, quoting a passage from the Quran: “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return!” He further announced that the funeral prayers for Maimuna, Khadija, and Juwairiyya would be held at 11 am on Wednesday at Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Mosque in Kofar mata.

“May God grant my daughter Maimuna (Islam), and my sister whom I follow, Hajiya Khadija and my elder brother’s wife, Juwairiyya, death. Their burial will take place today, around 11 am (11.00 am), at Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Mosque in Kofar mata. May Allah have mercy on them, and forgive them, Amen O Lord,” Kofar-Mata posted.
As the investigation into the tragic incident continues, the commissioner and his family are left to mourn and rebuild after losing cherished members in such a sudden and devastating manner.
