The Kano State Government has directed the police to evict the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, from the Nassarawa mini palace.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had previously issued a similar directive following Ado Bayero’s return to the state two days after his dethronement, accusing the former monarch of inciting tension.
Despite the governor’s orders, additional soldiers were deployed to the mini-palace to secure Ado Bayero. At the time, Kano’s Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Gunel, affirmed that the police would comply with a court order restraining the state government from reinstating Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi.

“The Police Command is expressly obeying the court order with SUIT No. FHC/KN/CS/182/2024, dated May 23, 2024, issued by the Federal High Court sitting in Kano alongside all law enforcement agents in the state,” Gunel stated.
On Thursday, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isah Dederi, addressed journalists at the Government House, emphasizing the need to evict the dethroned emir due to planned reconstruction and renovation of the property.
“The court’s ruling unequivocally reaffirms the validity of the law passed by the Kano State House of Assembly and assented to by the Governor on May 23, 2024,” Dederi said.

He added that this ruling validates the government’s previous actions, including the abolishment of the five emirates created in 2019 and the deposition of their emirs.
Dederi explained that, following the court’s ruling, Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the Emir of Kano.
Consequently, the state government has instructed the Commissioner of Police to remove Ado Bayero from the government property, citing plans for immediate demolition and reconstruction of the dilapidated wall fence as part of the renovations.
