Late MKO Abiola Son Berates Elder Brother’s Leadership Capability

Abdul Abiola, one of the sons of the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (MKO Abiola), expressed his doubts about his elder brother Kola Abiola’s ability to rule Nigeria. He said this while attending a candid interview on a podcast show “Mic On” this last Sunday,

Abdul openly criticized Kola’s performance in managing their father’s extensive empire, stating that his elder brother failed in his responsibilities.

Kola Abiola had contested for the presidency in 2023 under the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) banner, but his campaign was notably unsuccessful.

“MKO Abiola’s legacy would have been properly sustained if Kola was in a better position. He could have been a voice of better democratic values, but he chose not to,” Abdul said.

He lamented Kola’s lack of effort in upholding their father’s political legacy and his failure to unify the family. Reflecting on the period when their father was imprisoned, Abdul pointed out that Kola was preoccupied with other matters.

“During the time my father was still in jail, he was busy with other things. It’s sad, but I’m a little pleased that my father didn’t come out to see what his first son has become,” he remarked.

Abdul expressed his dissatisfaction with Kola’s actions and claimed that many Nigerians shared his sentiments, highlighting the minimal support Kola received during his presidential campaign.

“I’m unhappy with him, and even Nigerians are unhappy. You can see how many people voted for him when he campaigned for the presidency,” Abdul noted.

Questioning Kola’s ambitions, Abdul added, “I wondered how he thought he could be president when he could not manage Abiola’s empire.

How will he manage Nigeria? This is the problem in Nigeria: people are not showing capacity in their own little sphere of work but want a higher position.”

Abdul’s remarks shed light on internal family dynamics and underline his concerns about leadership and capability in Nigerian politics.
