BREAKING: Passengers Stranded At Kano Airport As Labour Begins Indefinite Strike

Labour Day

Hundreds of passengers on domestic flights were stranded at the entrance gate of Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Monday morning.

This comes as aviation unions join the nationwide indefinite strike declared by organized labour over new minimum wage and hike in the electricity tariff.

The aviation unions had earlier announced their readiness to join the planned indefinite labor strike scheduled to begin today.

The unions announced the decision after a meeting on Sunday.

They include the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE).

Making good on their promise on Monday, members of the union blocked the entrance of the airport, preventing passengers from gaining entrance.

One of the passengers, Mr. Abdulrasak Abiodun, told the Grassroots Parrot that they were initially stopped at the gate, and after they eventually gained entrance, the airline officials were not working.

“We are just standing, they later gave us access to the airport, we are in the terminal departure hall but no any sign of ticketing going on.

“Even the Air Conditions are not on, the hall is even very hot now as I’m speaking to you.” He said.
