The Kogi State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to withdraw the ‘wanted’ tag it placed on the immediate past Governor of the state, Yahaya Bello.
This decision was reached during the House’s plenary session held on Tuesday.
The motion was presented by Jibrin Abu, the representative of Ajaokuta State Constituency, under the title, “A call to end all false, frivolous, fictitious, and far from the truth smear campaign against the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.”

Abu accused the anti-graft agency of engaging in a witch-hunt against Bello, emphasizing that Kogi State could not possibly have lost N80.4 billion without severe consequences.
He called for sanctions against the EFCC and urged citizens to withdraw their support from baseless allegations.
Enema Paul, the former Deputy Speaker of the House, echoed Abu’s sentiments, urging the EFCC to adhere to the rule of law in its operations.
In his ruling, the Speaker of the House, Aliyu Yusuf, emphasized the importance of the EFCC conducting its activities within the confines of the law.

While acknowledging the agency’s mandate to fight corruption, he stressed the need for it to operate transparently and in accordance with legal procedures.
“This House supports the EFCC in carrying out its responsibilities, but it must be done in compliance with the law, without resorting to arbitrary or extrajudicial methods.
“Respect for the rule of law is paramount, and we expect all agencies of government to uphold it,” Speaker Yusuf stated.
