Obi, Other Tinubu’s Challengers Can Never Improve Nigeria – Datti

OBI DATTI

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said none of the politicians currently seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, including his former running mate, Peter Obi, has the capacity to improve Nigeria.

Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during an interview on the Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye.

According to him, President Tinubu should prepare to leave office but should not hand over power to any of the politicians currently positioning themselves to succeed him.

“I will simply advise uncle Tinubu to please prepare to hand over and move away, but not to the people contesting against him because none of them will improve Nigeria,” he said.

When asked to clarify whether his remarks included opposition figures such as Peter Obi, Baba-Ahmed responded that they did.

“Tinubu should leave the stage. All those people contesting against him, too—they were all in bed together at some point or another,” he said, adding, “Including Peter Obi, I’m sorry to say.”

Baba-Ahmed argued that many of the politicians seeking power in 2027, including Peter Obi had previously been associated with ruling parties, insisting that Nigeria needs an entirely new political direction rather than a recycling of familiar political figures.

He, however, maintained that he had never been a member of a ruling party, noting that he resigned from the APC following its emergence as the governing party.

Baba-Ahmed and Obi contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party. Baba-Ahmed later left the party for the Peoples Redemption Party.
