Presidency Knocks Peter Obi Over One-Term ‘Gun To My Head’ Vow

PETER OBI

The Presidency has faulted former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi over his promise to serve only one term if elected president, describing him as politically inconsistent.

Obi, in a viral interview clip scheduled to air on News Central TV, stated that he would leave office after four years “even with a gun to my head.”

Reacting through a post on X, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, argued that Obi’s political history shows a pattern of broken promises and shifting party loyalties.

Onanuga recalled that Obi once pledged loyalty to the All Progressives Grand Alliance during his time as Anambra governor before later joining the Peoples Democratic Party.

He added that Obi has continued moving across political platforms over the years, making his promises difficult to trust.

Obi contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party and finished third behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Reports also indicate that he has now aligned with the Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
