JUST IN: Obi Dumps ADC, Cites Internal Crisis

Peter Obi

Presidential hopeful Peter Obi has confirmed his decision to leave the African Democratic Congress ADC ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a message shared on his official X handle on Sunday, the former Anambra State governor cited a worsening political climate, marked by internal crises, external interference, and growing tension within party structures.

Obi described Nigeria’s political space as increasingly hostile, where intimidation and insecurity have become commonplace, adding that systems meant to protect citizens are often perceived to work against them.

He clarified that his exit was not driven by personal grievances with party leaders, including David Mark and Atiku Abubakar, both of whom he said he continues to respect.

Rather, he pointed to persistent internal divisions, legal disputes, and what he described as the infiltration of destabilising forces—similar to challenges he previously faced in the Labour Party Nigeria.

Obi also expressed concern over a broader trend where integrity and adherence to due process are often misinterpreted as weakness, noting that genuine efforts at nation-building are being undermined by political maneuvering focused more on control than service.

Despite his departure, he reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s development, stressing that his focus remains on addressing insecurity, poverty, and displacement, rather than personal political ambition.
