NNPC Depot, Several Premises Sealed Over Sanitation Offences In Kano

KANO SANITATION

The Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), working with the Mobile Environmental Sanitation Court, has sealed a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) depot in Hotoro and penalised several other facilities for violating sanitation laws.

The enforcement operation, conducted on Thursday, covered government institutions, commercial centres, private premises, construction sites, and public conveniences across the state.

REMASAB Managing Director, Muhammad Khalil, said the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to enforce environmental regulations and safeguard public health.

“Environmental sanitation laws are designed to protect lives and ensure a clean and safe environment. Any individual or organisation that violates these laws will face appropriate sanctions,” Khalil said.

Officials said a public convenience along Hotoro Road was found in an unsanitary condition and fined.

The NNPC depot in Hotoro was sealed after it was found to have breached sanitation regulations, with the Mobile Environmental Sanitation Court ordering its closure.

In Naibawa Quarters near Royal City, authorities sealed a building under construction for illegally depositing sand and stones on a public road, obstructing movement and posing danger to motorists and pedestrians. The offender was fined.

A similar offence was recorded along IBB Way, where another individual was sanctioned for dumping construction materials on the roadway.

Khalil urged residents and organisations to comply with sanitation laws, stressing that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility.

“Compliance is not optional. It is a collective duty to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our communities,” he said.

He also commended the Commissioner for Environment, Dahir Hashim, and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for their support toward environmental renewal and beautification in the state.

REMASAB said the enforcement drive will continue as part of sustained efforts to promote cleanliness, public health, and adherence to environmental laws.
