The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has confirmed the incident that led to the death of a mother of five Aishatu Umar, which occurred at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, following widespread allegations of medical negligence that sparked public outrage in Kano.
In a press release issued on Tuesday evening and signed by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman, the Board disclosed that a preliminary investigation ordered by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, had established the location and circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
“The preliminary and transparent investigation established that the unfortunate incident involving the late Aishatu Umar did occur at the Abubakar Imam Urology Center,” the statement said.
In a decisive move aimed at restoring public confidence, the Board announced the immediate suspension of three personnel directly linked to the case.

“In line with our commitment to accountability, three (3) personnel directly involved in the case have been outrightly suspended from clinical activities with immediate effect,” the statement added.
The Board further revealed that the matter has been formally referred to the Kano State Medical Ethics Committee for an in-depth probe and possible disciplinary measures. According to the Board, the referral is intended to ensure that “appropriate disciplinary action is taken in accordance with existing laws, professional guidelines, and ethical standards.”
Reacting to the growing public outcry, the Board extended condolences to the bereaved family, describing the loss as deeply painful.
“The Kano State Hospitals Management Board extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late Aishatu Umar,” the statement read, while stressing that the agency “will not condone negligence in any form.”
The Board also vowed to tighten internal monitoring mechanisms and strictly enforce professional standards across all state-owned health facilities. It assured residents that proactive measures are already being implemented to prevent a recurrence of such incidents and to protect the lives, dignity, and trust of patients in Kano State.
