Kano NSCDC Removes Boss After Suspect’s Death In Custody

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has removed the Divisional Officer in charge of Fagge following the death of a suspect while in custody, triggering widespread concern and an official investigation.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed that the Fagge Divisional Officer, SC Amina Musa Kolawale, had been relieved of her duties. He added that all officers and men on duty at the time of the incident have been handed over to the Kano State Police Command for further investigation and necessary action.

According to the statement, the decision followed the setting up of a panel of inquiry to ensure a “discreet and fair investigation” into the circumstances surrounding the death.

“Following the sad incident in which a suspect lost his life in Fagge divisional office, the State Commandant, NSCDC Kano State Command, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, has approved the removal of the Fagge Divisional Officer,” the statement read.

The Command also announced the deployment of CSC Bashir Isa Abubakar as the new Divisional Officer to replace Kolawale.

While appealing to members of the public to remain calm, the NSCDC reiterated its commitment to professionalism and the rule of law.

“The Corps remains committed to continuous respect for the sanctity of life, human rights, standard operational procedures, integrity and the rule of law,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, allegations surrounding the incident have continued to generate reactions on social media. A Facebook user, Jafar Magaji, identified the deceased as Halifa Abdullahi, said to be an officer serving at the NSCDC Fagge Division.

According to the post, Abdullahi was allegedly accused by his superiors of stealing N1 million and a motorcycle and was subsequently detained.

“He was allegedly severely beaten and tortured, which ultimately led to his death,” Magaji claimed.

He further quoted a statement attributed to the deceased’s brother, who said he visited Halifa Abdullahi on the night of January 6, 2026, bringing food for him.

“At that time, he heard officers saying they would not even allow him to eat, and he could hear sounds of beating being inflicted on him,” the post alleged.

As investigations continue, the police are expected to determine the exact circumstances that led to the death, while rights groups and residents await the outcome of the probe.
