The Niger State Government has declared Thursday, October 30, and Friday, October 31, 2025, as work-free days for residents ahead of the November 1 local government elections across the state.

This news was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Usman, who said the decision was approved by Governor Umar Bago to allow eligible voters ample time to travel to their respective polling units and participate fully in the grassroots election.

According to the SSG, all public offices, markets, banks, and financial institutions are to remain closed during the voting period. He added that there will be restrictions on the movement of persons and vehicles, except for those on essential duties.

“The government is encouraging citizens to come out en masse and perform their civic responsibilities on Saturday, 1st November, 2025,” the statement read. “This election provides yet another opportunity for Nigerlites to elect capable leaders who will champion development and represent our collective interests at the grassroots level.”

Usman further disclosed that Governor Bago has directed all security agencies in the state to ensure that the elections are peaceful, transparent, and orderly.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to guaranteeing a safe and hitch-free electoral process, urging residents to conduct themselves responsibly before, during, and after the polls.
