A Kano State High Court has sentenced two men, Sagiru Lawan and Kabiru Alaramma, to death by hanging after finding them guilty of the murder of a carpenter, Abba Aminu Yalwa.
Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji of High Court No. 15, Kano, delivered the judgment on Thursday, declaring that the prosecution had proven the murder charge against the defendants beyond reasonable doubt.
According to court records, the tragic incident occurred in 2018 in the Danbare area of the Kano metropolis. The deceased, Abba Aminu, had reportedly given money to Sagiru Lawan for a land transaction but later demanded a refund when the deal fell through.
Sagiru then invited Abba to Danbare under the pretext of showing him a piece of land for sale. Upon arrival, Sagiru called his accomplice, Kabiru Alaramma, and together they strangled and stabbed the victim to death.

The prosecution counsel, Barrister Aminu Ado Bello, presented six witnesses and several exhibits to establish the case. In his ruling, Justice Ma’aji commended the prosecution for presenting “strong and convincing evidence” that confirmed the defendants’ guilt.
He found both men guilty of culpable homicide punishable with death under Section 221 (B) of the Penal Code and accordingly sentenced them to death by hanging.
The verdict brings to a close a case that has lingered for years, offering justice to the family of the slain carpenter.
