The Dandinshe Yamma Quarters in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State has been plunged into mourning following the shocking death of a 14-year-old girl, Fatima Sulaiman, who was found hanging inside her family residence on Saturday evening.

Speaking with newsmen who visited the grieving family, Fatima’s mother, Malama Madina Inuwa Makwalla, tearfully recalled the last moments she shared with her daughter before the tragedy.

“On Saturday evening, we planned to visit a relative admitted at the hospital. As we were about to leave, Fatima said she wanted to use the toilet and promised to join us. I didn’t know that would be the last time I’d see her alive,” she said.

The family returned from the hospital later that evening to find the gate of their house locked from the inside. Attempts to open it with a spare key failed. Moments later, Fatima’s father, Malam Sulaiman, returned from the market and scaled the fence to gain entry.

“He met our daughter hanging by the window, lifeless. He was shocked and immediately called me. That was how we raised the alarm, and neighbors rushed to our house,” Malama Madina recounted.

Residents at the scene expressed suspicion of foul play, claiming the nature of Fatima’s death suggested she might have been attacked before being hanged.

Confirming the development, Fatima’s father said the family quickly alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and moved the body to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital. Medical personnel there confirmed she was brought in dead.

“We have no idea who could be behind such a terrible tragedy. We leave everything to Almighty Allah and pray that God exposes those responsible,” Malam Sulaiman said.

The spokesman of the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, saying an investigation is underway.

“We received a distress call and immediately dispatched our men to the scene. The body was taken to the hospital where she was confirmed dead. We have opened a full investigation to determine the actual cause of death and ensure justice is served,” he stated.

Neighbors described Fatima as a calm, respectful, and generous teenager who lived peacefully with everyone in the community.

“She was loved by many in the neighborhood. This tragedy has shaken all of us,” a resident said.

Fatima has since been buried according to Islamic rites, with hundreds of sympathizers attending her funeral to pay their last respects.
