The Chairman of the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has stated that the party is unbothered by the recent defection of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Grassroots Parrot reports that the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on Thursday officially received several NNPP defectors, including Senator Kawu, into the ruling party.
Reacting his defection on Friday, Dungurawa told Punch that Sumaila’s departure as a welcome development and a relief for the party.
“We are not surprised. It’s something we’ve long anticipated. He had already been suspended for lacking value to contribute to the party. That’s why he remains irrelevant,” Dungurawa said.
He further stated that Kawu’s exit would help restore calm within the party, allowing it to focus on its mission without internal distractions.

“The party will now enjoy peace. He turned out to be a stubborn boy among the children in the party. Now that he’s out, we can concentrate on our goals without his constant disruptions,” he added.
Senator Kawu Sumaila, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and an influential figure in Kano’s political landscape, had earlier this week announced his move to the APC.
He cited the need to align with a platform he believes offers greater potential for effective governance and public service.
His defection puts an end to months of speculation about his future with the NNPP.
