Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has constituted a high-powered committee headed by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, to investigate the recent killings in Uromi village, Edo State.

The delegation departed for Edo on Thursday in a mission combining fact-finding with peace-building efforts.

Grassroots Parrot reports the tragic incident, which took place last month, led to the loss of several lives and the displacement of many residents, including indigenes of Kano State residing in the area. The development has sparked outrage and heightened tensions within the affected community.

The committee was established in response to growing concerns over the violent attacks, with a mandate to unearth the root causes of the crisis and explore avenues for lasting peace.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Garba Shu’aibu, the committee includes key stakeholders such as the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Mohammad Isa Umar; Commissioners for Religious Affairs, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Special Duties and Women Affairs; as well as the Chairman of Bunkure Local Government Area and other senior government officials.

Speaking at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport before departure, Deputy Governor Gwarzo emphasized the committee’s dedication to justice and reconciliation.

“Our mandate is clear – to investigate, to consult and to recommend sustainable solutions. This is not just a fact-finding mission, but a peace-building initiative aimed at restoring confidence and preventing further violence,” Gwarzo stated.

He revealed that during the committee’s week-long visit, members would meet with the Edo State Governor, heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, and civil society groups to gain a holistic understanding of the situation on the ground.

“This initiative forms part of a broader intervention by the Northern Governors Forum to demonstrate solidarity, promote national unity and respond proactively to rising insecurity across the country,” he added.

The committee’s findings are expected to shape policy recommendations and foster collaboration between northern and southern leaders in addressing inter-communal violence and displacement.
