APC Wouldn’t Exist Without Me— Senator Hanga

Senator Rufai Hanga, representing Kano Central under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has made a startling revelation about his involvement in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the ruling party would not have existed without his contribution.

Grassroots Parrot reports that Sen. Hanga recounted how President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, then Governor of Lagos State, personally invited him to Lagos to discuss the merger talks that eventually led to the birth of the APC.

“If not for me, APC would not have existed, and no one gave me a dime,” Hanga declared. “Tinubu came to Arewa House in Abuja and invited me to his house. We sat in his bedroom and agreed on how APC would be formed.”

While responding to questions on whether NNPP is considering joining a new opposition alliance, he said no final decision had been made but hinted that an announcement could come in the next one or two months.

The NNPP senator also spoke on the longstanding relationship between his political leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and President Tinubu. According to him, the former Kano State governor was initially invited to join the government under an undisclosed agreement but was later “ditched.”

“They invited Kwankwaso ab initio to come and join the government because they had an agreement, and he consented,” Hanga said. “But that agreement was kicked out, and he was ditched. We thank God it happened very early before anything even started. There is so much betrayal in this country.”

Expressing his disappointment over how things have unfolded within the Tinubu-led administration, Hanga accused some elements within the president’s circle of ignoring those who helped build the party.

“I have a lot of respect for him [Tinubu], but his spin doctors do not see that. It is only themselves they know,” Hanga lamented. “People from other parts of the country have ruled, but we have never had a situation where people were openly bragging that it is their time. They do things with impunity, and when you talk to them, they will tell you it is their time.”
