Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of corruption and a history of abusing women during his tenure as Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
These allegations were made during an interview with journalist Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie on the program “Untold Stories.”
In the interview, Atiku responded to questions about reports of corruption linked to Akpabio’s time as governor, stating, “Not only was he corrupt, but he also had a history of abusing women.”
This statement comes in the wake of sexual harassment allegations leveled against Akpabio by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Atiku also criticized the National Assembly’s recent approval of President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
He expressed his lack of surprise at the swift approval, citing corruption within the Assembly’s leadership. “I was not surprised because I know the leadership is corrupt, and I have no apologies for saying that.
They could do anything. The Senate President is known for such behavior, even during his tenure as governor,” Atiku remarked.

Regarding the 2027 presidential elections, Atiku indicated openness to supporting a coalition aimed at unseating the current government. He referenced the 2014 merger of political parties, noting, “We had a similar merger in 2014, where several candidates contested.
One emerged, and we all supported him. Nigeria has never been in greater need of credible leadership than now.”
These statements have sparked discussions about the integrity of the National Assembly’s leadership and the potential formation of political alliances ahead of the next general elections.
