From Esther Akaa, Lafia

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has commissioned the remodelled State Government Printing Press in Lafia, the state capital.

The printing press, which was first built in 2001 under the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Adamu, had been experiencing low productivity due to outdated equipment.

During the commissioning ceremony on Thursday , Governor Sule expressed his appreciation for the initiative to establish the printing press, but noted that the equipment had become obsolete over time.

He also acknowledged previous attempts to upgrade the facility, which were unsuccessful.

In his words “This Printing Press was first built and commissioned in the year 2001. So we appreciate those who came with the idea of establishing the printing press but most of the equipment actually went obsolete.

“An attempt made in the past to upgrade it failed. Today, we thank God for giving us the opportunity to remodel and provide modern equipment in the facility.

“Today, we have new equipment, we can now print out gazette, receipts, posters, banners among others. And at the end of the day, it will help to improve the IGR of the state.”

Governor Sule stated that the facility will not only provide printing services but also serve as a training center for youths to acquire skills.

The governor Sule directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies ( MDAs) in the state to print their documents and other materials at the remodelled printing press to ensure the effective utilisation of the facility.

He also urged the management of the State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, as well as the management of the Printing Press, to maintain quality production at all times.

On his part, the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Ibrahim Tanko, commended Governor Sule for remodeling the printing press.

He assured that the staff would receive training to ensure professionalism and effective service delivery.

The remodelled printing press is equipped with modern machines, including a Large Format Printing Machine, DI machine, Computer to Plate Machine and Hot binding machine, among others.

With the commissioning of the remodelled printing press, the Nasarawa State Government aims to improve its internally generated revenue (IGR) and provide employment opportunities for youths in the state.
