The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially transferred the property and assets of Nok University, Kachia, in Kaduna State to the Federal Government.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukayode handed over the institution’s documents to the Minister of Education at a ceremony held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in the presence of Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The handover follows a ruling by the Federal High Court in June 2024, which ordered the final forfeiture of the university, previously owned by a private individual.

Following the court’s decision, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed that the institution be repurposed as a Federal University of Applied Sciences, with the aim of fostering development in Southern Kaduna, a region that has faced challenges due to insecurity.

Vice President Shettima, addressing attendees that included Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other key stakeholders, described the transfer as a testament to the administration’s commitment to inclusivity and national development.

He praised President Tinubu for prioritizing the transformation of the university, noting that it was the first item on the agenda of the Federal Executive Council.

Acknowledging the efforts of various individuals in making the transition possible, Shettima specifically mentioned General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs, and Senator Sunday Marshall.

He assured that preparations for the university’s operation are in progress, with student admissions expected to commence by September 2025.

Governor Uba Sani expressed his appreciation to President Tinubu, describing the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences as a significant milestone for Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusivity and peaceful coexistence among the people of the state.

EFCC Chairman Olukayode detailed the forfeited assets, which include academic buildings, a water factory, an international hotel, and an event center.

The transfer aligns with the resolution of the Federal Executive Council on February 4, 2025, which formalized the university’s new status under federal ownership.

Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa lauded the development, stating that it underscores the administration’s dedication to expanding Nigeria’s human capital through education.

He emphasized that education, health, and social welfare remain at the core of President Tinubu’s vision for national progress.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa also commended the initiative, highlighting its importance for Southern Kaduna.

He noted that the university will not only benefit Kaduna State but also enhance educational opportunities across Nigeria, contributing to long-term peace and stability in the region.
