APC Replies Kwankwaso’s 2027 Claim, Labels Him “Political Refugee”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has dismissed claims by former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will significantly diminish the party’s votes in the state during the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Abdullahi Abass, the state APC chairman, described Kwankwaso’s assertion as “laughable” and labeled it a “mere daydream.”

Abass urged the former governor to focus on reclaiming his membership in the NNPP, rather than making “unfounded claims” that, according to him, hold no merit.

The APC also criticized Kwankwaso, referring to him as a “political refugee” who is clinging to the support of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in an attempt to regain relevance.

The party further warned Kwankwaso that it would not allow a repeat of what they described as “vote manipulation and allocation” that gave the false impression of NNPP’s influence in Kano during the 2023 general elections.

“Our teeming supporters in the APC have no cause to worry about Kwankwaso, who has been booted out of the NNPP due to his cluelessness and self-centeredness.

We expect Kwankwaso to keep wondering why he has become a wanderer in the political terrain,” Abass said in the statement.

Abass further pointed out that Kwankwaso’s departure from the APC was due to his failure to align with the party’s progressive ideals, his overblown ego, and his domineering nature.

He also noted that Kwankwaso had left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after the party failed to accommodate him, leaving him in search of political relevance.

Kwankwaso’s comments came after he received some political defectors at his residence on Wednesday, where he asserted that the NNPP had grown strong enough to challenge the APC’s dominance in Kano. He claimed that the APC would suffer a significant blow in the 2027 elections.

“If the PDP could struggle to receive 15,000 votes in the 2023 Presidential elections in Kano, APC will not only fall short of expectations but will receive the most embarrassing votes in the 2027 elections in Kano,” Kwankwaso said.

“NNPP achieved tremendous success in the presidential and governorship elections despite being a new political platform with a late start to its campaign. APC will be diminished in Kano in 2027,” he added.
