President Bola Tinubu has directed the Nigerian military to eradicate banditry by 2025, according to Minister of State for Defense, Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

Grassroots Parrot gathered that the minister made this announcement on Saturday, December 21, during a meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his residence in Gusau, Zamfara State.

He assured attendees that the military is fully committed to the President’s mandate and will intensify efforts to combat the persistent threat of banditry.

The former Zamfara State governor disclosed that the federal government has finalized plans to deploy additional troops and advanced military equipment to the North-West region, which has been severely affected by bandit attacks.

While acknowledging the progress made in the fight against banditry, Matawalle expressed concern over the role of informants in undermining military operations.

“The federal government and military chiefs are very much disturbed over the issue of informants aiding the bandits. That is the major challenge for not winning the war against bandits,” Matawalle stated.

The directive from President Tinubu signals a renewed commitment to addressing the security crisis in the North-West and other troubled regions of the country.

The deployment of additional resources and the implementation of more robust strategies aim to restore peace and stability by the target year.

This development revitalizes the government’s resolve to tackle insecurity and protect citizens from the growing menace of banditry, which has claimed countless lives and displaced many communities.
