Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga has confirmed the permanent removal of Betta Edu from her role as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, following her earlier suspension amid allegations of financial misconduct involving N585 million.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Onanuga stated that Edu’s exit was finalized with President Bola Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, ending months of speculation about a potential reinstatement.
Onanuga clarified that Edu’s position has been permanently filled by Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda from Plateau State, signaling there is “no place for her in the cabinet” under the current administration.

The dismissal comes after President Tinubu directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to thoroughly investigate all financial transactions in Edu’s former ministry and related agencies.
Although the EFCC has yet to publicly disclose its findings, Onanuga noted that Tinubu’s decision indicates the possibility of incriminating evidence.
Edu was initially suspended in January, and her permanent exit reflects the administration’s commitment to accountability, Onanuga suggested.
