The 16th Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II,   will on November 25, 2024, officially install his first son, Aminu Sanusi Lamido, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), as the Ciroman Kano, a prestigious title in the Kano Emirate.

Grassroots parrot reports that this title, traditionally reserved for the crown prince or heir apparent, marks Aminu Sanusi Lamido as a key figure in the future leadership of the Emirate.

The Ciroman Kano title holds great cultural and political significance within the Emirate, not only symbolizing royal lineage but also conferring important responsibilities.

Holders of the title are entrusted with managing specific districts within Kano, reflecting their status and duties in the royal hierarchy.

Aminu Sanusi Lamido’s appointment follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Ambassador Aminu Sanusi, who held the same title until his death in the 1990s. The last person to hold the title was Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, now the Emir of Bichi.

Nasiru Ado Bayero and his brother, Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, were both removed from their titles by the Kano State government alongside three others during a reshuffling of the Kano royal leadership.

In addition to the Ciroman Kano’s turbaning, nine other individuals will be honored with traditional titles at the ceremony. These include Mahmud Aminu Yusufu as Mai Unguwar Mundubawa, Dr. Abubakar Sanusi Usman Shehu II as Dan Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abubakar Aminu Sanusi (Wambai) as Dan Madami, Arch. Ali Muktar as Sa’in Kano, Sarki Yusuf Bayero ‘Yan Daka as Sarkin Daka, Abdullahi Idris Bayero as Fagacin Kano, Ado Abdullahi Aminu as Kaigaman Kano, Idris Sanusi as Sarkin Sullubawa, Mansur Isa Bayero as Sarkin Kudu, and Abdullahi Sarki Mohammed as Sarkin Yamma.

The turbaning of the Ciroman Kano is viewed as a significant event for the Kano Emirate, with Aminu Sanusi Lamido’s appointment seen as a major step in the future leadership of the royal family and the preservation of the Emirate’s heritage.
