Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has expressed optimism about the future of Nigeria, stating that he envisions a prosperous and united nation despite the current socio-economic hardships, hunger, and other challenges confronting the country.

Governor Yusuf made these remarks during a broadcast to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, which was later shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Speaking at an event held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of hope and resilience in overcoming present difficulties. “I must admit that I am more than confident that Nigeria of tomorrow will, In Shaa Allah (God willing), be better than where we were yesterday and today,” he said.

The governor lauded Nigeria’s journey to independence, describing it as a “significant milestone in the history of our beloved country, a day that is engraved in the hearts of every citizen, young and old.

”He highlighted that this day serves as a moment of reflection on the sacrifices made by the nation’s forefathers and a reminder of the continued commitment to building a stronger, united, and prosperous nation.

Yusuf urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their quest for unity and prosperity, emphasizing that the task of nation-building is ongoing. “We must continue to strive for a more united and more prosperous Nigeria and Kano State,” he stated.

He also prayed for a united and indivisible country where freedom of speech, movement, and religion would be upheld and the economy would continue to thrive, benefiting all citizens.

The governor’s speech paid tribute to the resilience and bravery of nationalists and forefathers who fought for Nigeria’s liberation from British colonial rule.

He specifically mentioned figures like Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Mallam Aminu Kano, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe, and others whose sacrifices shaped the nation’s history.

Governor Yusuf used the occasion to highlight his administration’s achievements across key sectors such as education, infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, water supply, and youth and women’s empowerment.

He also commended the civil service in Kano State for their dedication and assured them of his administration’s readiness to promptly review and implement the New Minimum Wage once the committee’s recommendations are presented.

The Independence Anniversary, according to Yusuf, is a reminder of the shared heritage and collective responsibility to build a brighter future for Nigeria. He concluded by encouraging all citizens to renew their commitment to the ideals of unity and progress, hoping for a better and more prosperous Nigeria in the coming years.
