The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the results of the Edo State Governorship election announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The party’s Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, made the announcement during a media briefing in Abuja on Monday, claiming the results did not reflect the will of the people.
Damagum stated that the people of Edo State voted for the PDP’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and insisted that nothing short of his announcement as governor-elect would be accepted. He called on INEC to review the results, citing provisions in the Electoral Act that allow the commission to reconsider its actions.
The PDP chair accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of working alongside compromised officials from INEC and law enforcement to manipulate the election process.

According to Damagum, the PDP had raised concerns about the possibility of rigging before the election, claiming that the alleged plot was carried out despite their warnings.
The PDP has called on INEC to “do the right thing” and correct what they view as electoral injustice, though INEC has not yet issued a response to the allegations.
The election results have stirred significant controversy, with the PDP vowing to challenge the outcome through all available legal channels.
