Court Remands Side Chick Over Attempt To Kill Wife In Kano

COURT

Kano, Nigeria A Sharia court in the Rijiyar Lemu area of Dala Local Government Area (LGA), Kano State, has ordered the remand of a woman, Amina Nura, and four accomplices over allegations of an attempted murder.

The court heard that Amina attempted to kill a housewife, Rashida Kamal, whom she accused of obstructing her plans to marry Rashida’s husband, Alhaji Kamal.

The incident reportedly stems from a romantic relationship between Amina Nura and Alhaji Kamal. According to the prosecution, Kamal had proposed to Amina but later withdrew his proposal, a decision Amina believed was influenced by his wife, Rashida.

In revenge, Amina allegedly conspired with four others—Nusaiba Abdullahi, Maryam Nura, Fatima Rabi’u, and Maryam Sa’idu—to carry out an attack on Rashida Kamal.

The court was informed that the defendants, armed with weapons and a poisonous substance, went to Rashida’s home and assaulted her. The motive behind the attack was reportedly Amina’s belief that Rashida had interfered with her chances of marrying Alhaji Kamal.

During the court proceedings, Barrister Yusuf Kabir, counsel to the defendants, appealed for their release on bail. However, the presiding Khadi, Umar Usman Danbaba Dukurawa, denied the request, citing the seriousness of the charges. He subsequently ordered the remand of Amina Nura and her accomplices in prison custody.

The case has been adjourned until October 18, 2024, for further hearing. The incident has sparked discussions within the community about the complexities of relationships and the legal ramifications of taking the law into one’s hands.

As the case progresses, attention will be on how the court navigates the intersection of personal grievances, religious law, and criminal justice.
